“The Vosmaer Living Groups aren’t just a place to stay, they’re a place to live.”
DUWO recently informed us that we, as living groups, will no longer be able to choose our roommates. From now on, DUWO will offer campus contracts, meaning students will live at Vosmaer for short periods.
The Vosmaer Living Groups have existed since the 1970s, and residents have always had the right to choose their roommates. This foundation ensures the creation of living groups made up of people who choose to live together in an environment that requires long-term social commitment. In this way, we’ve created eight living groups at Vosmaer, each with its own unique character, with people ranging in age from their twenties to their sixties, with different professions, studies, interests, ethnicities, genders, political beliefs, and so on. All with the goal of living together and investing in a house you can call home. A home where we, as a community, care for each other together, not only within our walls but also beyond.
Changing the foundation of our living groups to temporary housing therefore has a huge impact on our existence. We want our living groups to remain stable, safe, and diverse. We want to continue to be able to choose who we live with.
If these unique collective housing options disappear from Amsterdam by offering campus contracts, they will never return to the city again.
